Assistant Principal
Hi Southwest Colts students and families!
I am absolutely thrilled to be the new Assistant Principal at Southwest Middle School. Although this is my first administrative assignment, I have unique educational experiences that make me a great fit for this position.
I am originally from upstate NY where I earned degrees in Graphic Design and Health & Human Services. After living in Colorado for a short time, I returned to NY to earn a master’s degree in literacy and the licensing to teach elementary school, reading resource K-12, and art K-12. While earning my master’s degree, I was working at Cornell Cooperative Extension. This position allowed me to visit schools to teach students about the environment, apply for educational grants, and work with at-risk youth to become responsible employees of the future. In 2005, I moved to SE North Carolina where I worked for a private country club managing tennis and swimming lessons, college interns, and a daily youth camp program.
Eventually, I received my NC teaching license and started long-term substitute teaching in several schools in New Hanover County. From there, I was hired to teach full-time. In March 2022, I was chosen to be a Principal Fellow where I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in May 2024. To be prepared for this role, I completed a 10-month AP internship; 5 months at the elementary level, and 5 months at the middle school level.
I am excited to bring my love of education to Southwest Middle School. I look forward to getting to know the students, their families, and the staff. Let’s have a great year!
